As a junior technician, I see a lot of malicious software, but this particular nasty takes the cake. It is called XP Anti-virus 2008 and it is defined as Smitfraud. Smitfraud is software that poses as a legitimate Anti-Virus or AnitSpyware but is in fact a scam, trying to get you to pay  for a piece of software that cripples your machine.

In the past, these fraudulent programs have been little more than an annoyance easily dispatched using tools like Smitfraud fix. This new strain however is much more tenacious, and requires much effort and patience to remove.

The Difference Between Adware, Spyware and Anti-virus

Adware, spyware and computer viruses share a few similarities. Mostly, the three are a pain for computer users. Let's distinguish between the three.

Spyware is software that doesn't purposely damage your computer. What they do is that they make footpaths that allow someone else aside from the computer owner to communicate with the computer. Generally spyware registers the diverse types of internet sites  you travel to which are subsequently exploited by cyberspace advertisers to permit them to broadcast you unwanted e-mails and pop-ups.

This is why spyware is commonly frowned on and greatly avoided. They are more encroaching than adware. Spyware possess individually executable programs which permit them to register your keystrokes, read files on your hard disks and consider additional applications that you utilize including instant messaging programs, cookies and browser settings.

A Discussion on W32.Sality Virus and the Methods to Get Rid of it Permanently

The other day when I started my computer it began behaving strangely. It started to open processes that I never asked it to open and my firewall and antivirus stopped working suddenly. I thought it was some weird bug and restarted my computer to see if everything goes fine again. However, to my surprise I found out that my Windows has gone more out of control. It started creating and deleting files all by itself. It created executable files in each folder with the same name as the parent folder and hid the folders. Even the icon of these executables resembles a folder icon. After some investigation, I understood that it should definitely be some form of virus. Therefore, I just reinstalled my antivirus and found out to my surprise that my PC is completely infected with a virus named Win32.sality virus. Again, in a few minutes my antivirus went dead. Therefore, I really had no clue what to do if an antivirus is not able to fight the virus. Therefore, I searched the Internet and found out that there are many people with the same problem. Even though the virus had been detected as early as 2005, still some antivirus softwares are not able to combat it properly. In the process of cleaning my computer of that deadly virus, I found out some best methods to apply while cleaning it. Since I see many people suffering with the same issue I thought, it would be helpful to others if I share this information. So here we go.

Koobface Virus: What You Should Know About

Probably your children are addicted to social networks websites like Facebook or Myspace. Exchanging messages with friends, sharing photos and various other exciting activities keeps them busy on the social network website hours after hours.

A virus named Koobface is known for being spread through messages of these websites. It is initally a computer worm that tricks the user to download the actual virus.
